A garbage truck plunged partway into a sinkhole after the driver ignored a barricade on Thursday morning.
The accident happened on January 2nd at around 8:30 a.m. near 16th and Farnam Streets in Omaha, Nebraska.
According to KETV 7, the garbage truck driver got out of the truck to physically move a barricade away from the alleyway before driving into the narrow area. The truck then fell partially into a 10-12 foot deep hole with power and gas lines running through it.
It is unclear if the barricade was blocking an existing sinkhole, or if the truck created one. Omaha City Engineers say that the area was already a concern for officials prior to the incident, and that the city had already been investigating sewer issues in the area.
Police advise drivers to take an alternate route.
