Multiple NYC streets and highways have been shut down due to flooding after heavy thunderstorms hit the city on Thursday.
The storms rolled into New York City on Thursday afternoon, July 31st. Heavy rain and flooding are expected to continue on NYC streets and highways through Thursday evening. Parts of the region are expected to see as much as five inches of rain, and some have experienced an estimated 3 inches in one hour.
According to the New York Post, photos of vehicles submerged in floodwaters along the Clearview Expressway near Northern Boulevard were captured by NYC DOT traffic cameras. One of the submerged vehicles includes a semi truck with water up to its cab doors.
A state of emergency has been declared in New York City and in New Jersey.
