Houston police seeking semi truck suspected in fatal six vehicle hit-and-run

Published:

Police in Houston, Texas, released video of a semi truck that they believe was involved in a fatal multi-vehicle collision last week, but a local news outlet suggests that a passenger vehicle may have actually been responsible for the deadly crash.

The crash occurred shortly after 7 p.m. on Friday, January 31, at 11400 South Sam Houston Parkway East (Beltway 8) service road in Houston, Texas.

From the Houston Police Department (HPD):

Several vehicles were stopped at the above address at a red light at the intersection with Sabo Road. A white 18 wheeler tractor-trailer truck struck the rear of a silver Chevrolet Cavalier. The tractor trailer continued forward and then struck a black Lexus RX350, a white Chevrolet Tahoe, a blue Ford Crown Victoria and a Toyota of unknown model. The impact caused multiple crashes between the vehicles. The driver of the 18-wheeler fled the scene without rendering aid. The driver of the Toyota did not remain at the scene to provide information.

The Cavalier driver, Francisco Medillin, 44, died at the scene.

The Lexus driver suffered critical injuries.

A nine year old male passenger in the Cavalier was hospitalized with non life-threatening injuries.

HPD said others involved in the crash were also transported to hospitals for treatment.

Investigators say they have identified “a white 18 wheeler tractor-trailer truck, unknown make and model, as the vehicle wanted in this case.”

While HPD is actively seeking the semi truck, local outlet KTRK says they have video that shows that a passenger vehicle initiated the chain reaction crash. See below.

Anyone with information is asked to call HPD’s Hit and Run Unit at 713-247-4072.
