The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) will close a popular rest area for two years to allow for trucker-friendly renovations.
On Monday, February 3, INDOT will close the Centerville rest area on westbound I-70 at mile marker 143 for a two year construction project.
Planned improvements include:
- Dog park
- 209 total parking spaces
- 156 semitruck spaces
- 53 passenger vehicle spaces
- Trucker restroom facilities
- Improved vending options and tourism-related information
- Adult recreation area and walking path
The Centerville rest area is expected to reopen in 2027.
During the two year closure, INDOT directs drivers to stop at the Greenfield rest area, located on I-70 westbound at mile marker 107 in Hancock County.
The Centerville rest area renovations are part of a larger INDOT project to spend $600 million to improve rest areas statewide. Officials plan to add 1,100 additional semi trailer parking spaces at 21 rest areas by the end of 2034.
