An ICE arrest detainer has been issued for a truck driver involved in a fatal accident in Oregon late last month that took the lives of two newlyweds.
The Department of Homeland Security issued a statement on Monday, December 1st, noting that the ICE arrest detainer has been issued for the “criminal illegal alien” Rajinder Kumar, a 32-year-old Indian national truck driver operating with a California issued CDL.
According to Fox News, the accident happened on November 24th at about 9:30 p.m. in Deschutes County, Oregon when Kumar jackknifed his semi truck. The semi truck was left blocking both lanes of Highway 20, and a Subaru Outback crashed into the wrecked rig, killing recently married William Micah Carter and Jennifer Lynn Lower.
Kumar was arrested for criminally negligent homicide and reckless endangerment, and is currently being held at the Deschutes County jail in Oregon. DHS says that “since Oregon is a sanctuary state, ICE will make all necessary efforts to bring Kumar into custody should he be released from custody” as part of the ICE arrest detainer efforts.
The DHS says that Kumar entered the United States illegally near Lukeville, Arizona in November 2022. Kumar was then released into the United States, and was later given work authorization in 2023. He also obtained his CDL in California in 2023.
“Rajinder Kumar, a criminal illegal alien from India, was released into our country under the Biden administration and issued a commercial driver’s license by Gavin Newsom’s Department of Motor Vehicles. How many more senseless tragedies must take place before sanctuary politicians stop allowing illegal aliens to dangerously operate semi-trucks on America’s roads?” DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said. “Under Secretary Noem, ICE will continue its efforts to get illegal alien truck drivers off America’s highways.”
