This week, the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) opened a rest area along I-70 near Terre Haute.
On November 5, 2025, INDOT held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newly constructed Clear Creek Welcome Center located at mile marker 2 on eastbound I-70, near the Indiana/Illinois state line.
The new rest area replaces the previous facility built in 1992.
The rest area provides 128 truck parking spaces, an increase from the 78 spaces available at the previous facility.
The increased truck parking availability is part of a larger INDOT project to add 1,200 additional semi truck parking spaces statewide over the next several years.
INDOT said that the Clear Creek Welcome Center is “inspired by the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the Indianapolis 500.” Racing fans can enjoy exhibits including a replica of the Borg-Warner Trophy, a scoring pylon, an actual IndyCar, and racing helmets.
Other amenities include an adult recreation area, a children’s playground, a walking path, and dog park.
“The new Clear Creek welcome center showcases Indiana’s deep roots in racing and provides a warm welcome for travelers entering the Crossroads of America,” said Gov. Braun. “This state-of-the-art facility is a destination for fellow Hoosiers and visitors alike.”
“The goal of INDOT’s overall plan is to provide safe, informative locations for travelers to rest, relax, and recharge,” said INDOT Commissioner Lyndsay Quist. “In addition to Clear Creek, we’re looking forward to opening the Black River welcome center on I-64 in Posey County later this year.”
