Iowa 80 Trucking Museum planning large building and collection expansion for 2026

The Iowa 80 Trucking Museum is planning a large expansion of its building in 2026 to showcase its ever-growing collection.

“The collection of trucks and trucking memorabilia has outgrown the current facility,” said Lee Meier,  marketing manager of Iowa 80 Group and its World’s Largest Truckstop, and the granddaughter of the original founder of the truck stop

“We’re looking forward to displaying new trucks in our collection, including four new Sterling Trucks that were added to the collection last year,” Lee said to the Quad Cities Business Journal. “We also will have our 1948 Mack ESQ, which was an armored coin carrier for Wells Fargo, available to the public for the first time post-restoration.”

Meier says the Mack ESQ has been restored by the Iowa 80 restoration team over the last four years “so we’re excited to unveil this truck to the public soon.”

The cost of the project has not been released, but the construction is expected to be completed by October 2026. The last expansion of the museum was completed in 2021. Construction over the next year will not impact the operations of the current museum building, which was first opened in 2008.
