Iowa troopers use stuck 188K pound load as a teaching moment about proper commercial vehicle permitting

Iowa state troopers are hoping that other truckers hauling oversized loads learn by example from a heavy haul attempt that went awry this week.

The Iowa State Patrol (ISP) Commercial Motor Vehicle Unit says that an oversized load without proper permits became stuck on Wednesday, November 19.

“There are many reasons for permit requirements. A recent example is this situation from yesterday. A 188,000+ pound load on a road that was not built to handle them,” ISP said.

It took crews several hours to free the struck truck.

“Before you travel, make sure you have the proper permits and are on the proper route!” Iowa troopers said.

ISP did not provide information about citations issued or the driver and company involved in the incident.
