Kansas troopers share video of wheel coming off commercial vehicle and striking cars as reminder to do pre-trip

The Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP) is reminding truck drivers to check their tires following a recent accident caught on traffic cameras on I-35.

The video was captured on December 14, 2025, on northbound I-35 south of 75th Street.

KHP said that a maroon semi truck pulling a white trailer lost a wheel while driving on I-35.

The loose wheel struck two other vehicles.

No injuries were reported.

Following the incident, a KHP trooper performed an inspection on the truck.

“During the inspection, the trooper discovered elongated lug nut holes, indicating that the wheel fasteners had been loose for some time. The trailer was placed out-of- service. This is a reminder that we should all check our tires!” troopers said.
