Louisiana State Police (LSP) provided details on a recent joint operation targeting human trafficking that involved commercial vehicle inspections and more.
The human trafficking detail took place as part of the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s Human Trafficking Awareness Initiative
The blitz was performed by Louisiana State Police Transportation Safety Services (LSP-TSS), in conjunction with LSP-Air Support, LSP-Criminal Investigation Division, and the Department of Transportation and Development Police (DOTD-Police).
LSP detailed the initiatives that took place during the human trafficking operation:
- LSP-TSS conducted North American Standard inspections on commercial motor vehicles (CMVs), enforcing federal motor carrier safety regulations and Louisiana criminal and traffic laws. LSP-TSS also emphasized unauthorized passengers in CMVs.
- LSP-Air Support used its Bell 407 GXP/GXI Helicopter and introduced our newest technological system, the Trakka System. The Trakka System can assist with search and rescue operations, mapping, and video management for law enforcement on the ground. It helped LSP-TSS identify unsafe operating CMVs.
- DOTD-Police controlled CMVs entering and exiting their fixed-scale facility and directed LSP-TSS to CMVs bypassing the facility when directed to enter.
“LSP wants to remind everyone, if you see or hear anything you suspect of being connected to human or labor trafficking, you can anonymously report this information to the Louisiana State Police by calling *LSP from your cell phone. You will immediately be connected to the local LSP Troop in that area. Thank you for your vigilance, and remember: if you see something, say something!” troopers said.
