A man was arrested in Miami on Wednesday after shouting “hahaha SIKE” at a police officer during an attempted traffic stop that ended with him crashing into a semi truck.
The incident happened on Wednesday, July 23rd at about 11 p.m. in the parking lot of a small shopping center at 2280 NW 28th Street in Miami, Florida.
According to Local 10, an officer was camped out in an area known for “high narcotics sales and usage” when he saw 42-year-old Eduardo Barbaro Gonzales engage in a potential drug handoff from a Dodge Charger. When the officer approached the Charger in his unmarked patrol car, Gonzales put his car in reverse and attempted to leave the scene.
“I moved my vehicle in front of (Gonzalez’s) vehicle and lowered my window to talk to him,” the officer wrote in the report. The officer says Gonzales then lowered his window and asked if he was “trying to come in.” The officer then told Gonzales that he needed to speak with him and that he was not “free to leave,”
Gonzales reportedly then “laughed out loud” and shouted “hahaha SIKE” before hitting the gas and speeding off. Soon afterwards, Gonzales ran a stop sign at Northwest 23rd Avenue and 23rd Street and collided with a semi truck.
Gonzales then tried to flee the scene on foot but sustained a leg injury in the crash, which prevented him from leaving. He was soon taken into custody and brought to the hospital. In the hospital, he provided a fake name a birthday, but his lie was discovered when officers brought a fingerprint reader to the facility.
Gonzales was found to have eight active warrants and an active case with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office for fleeing and eluding. He was soon booked into jail on new fleeing and eluding charges, along with resisting arrest. His probation warrants include aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, cocaine possession, and grand theft.
