MDOT camera catches moment tractor trailer actually exploded after multi vehicle accident

A large explosion was captured on an MDOT camera after a multi vehicle wreck involving a tractor trailer over the weekend. 

The accident happened on Interstate 59 near Hattiesburg, Mississippi between Evelyn Gandy Parkway and US 49 before 1 p.m. on July 27th. 

According to WLOX 13, the semi truck was involved in a multi vehicle accident and caught fire. After the accident, fire fighters were working to extinguish the fire when the truck exploded into a massive fireball. 

Officials say that the exact cause of the fire has not been released, but that it did not start in the trailer, and that the semi truck was not hauling unusually flammable cargo. No one was hurt in the accident or subsequent explosion.
