A military vehicle hit a semi truck while changing lanes in Michigan on Tuesday, sparking an eight vehicle chain reaction crash.
The accident happened on October 7th in Kalamazoo, Michigan on eastbound Interstate 94 near the Sprinkle Road exit.
According to ArcWest Michigan, the military vehicle was on I-94 when it lost control while changing lanes, hitting a semi truck. The semi truck then struck three passenger vehicles, which caused a crash involving three more.
One 10-year-old girl sustained critical head injuries but is now in stable condition. A 4-year-old girl and a 40-year-old woman were also hurt. Their injuries were not life threatening.
Investigators say that speed may have contributed to the crash. The roadway was shut down for almost eight hours as crews worked to clear the wreckage and investigate the incident. Further details have not been released, but Michigan State Police did issue a reminder for all drivers to “stay alert for slowed or stopped traffic, especially during heavy traffic periods.”
