Motorcycle smacks into back of semi truck while fleeing Arizona DPS

A motorcycle smacked into the back of a semi truck while fleeing Arizona Department of Public Safety officers on Tuesday afternoon. 

The accident happened on April 1st at 12:30 p.m. on Interstate 10 westbound near Avondale Boulevard in Avondale, Arizona. 

According to ABC 15, the DPS trooper attempted to stop the motorcycle rider but the person refused to stop and fled at a high speed. The trooper “did not pursue due to traffic conditions,” and the motorcyclist eventually smacked into the back of a semi truck. 

The motorcyclist sustained life threatening injuries in the crash. Their identity has not been released. It is not clear why the trooper initially attempted to stop the rider, or why the person fled.
