The Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP) is looking for a commercial vehicle and driver involved in a fatality crash in Seward County on Monday morning.

Troopers say that the crash occurred between midnight and 7:00 a.m. on December 22, 2025, on U.S. Highway 54 near Liberal, Kansas.

According to KHP, a commercial vehicle hauling an oversized load was parked on the eastbound shoulder of U.S. Highway 54 near mile marker 20 when it was struck from the rear by an eastbound 2017 Chevrolet Silverado.

The Chevrolet Silverado driver, identified as Aaron Bradley Patton, 26, died as a result of the crash.

Troopers say that the truck left the scene after the crash.

KHP is seeking a truck that is “light-colored, possibly sliver or gray” that “was transporting an oversized load that included a large steel cylinder.”
