Motorist in custody after running over truck driver at 73 mph while playing games on her phone

A woman is in custody after playing games on her phone while driving and running over a truck driver who was attempting to secure his load.

The accident happened on August 11th, in Dubuque County, Iowa, but 27-year-old Kaylynn Knight was not arrested until September 26th.

According to 9 ABC, truck driver Jayseth Paul was pulled over on the side of Highway 61 north on Buncombe Road securing his load when Knight crashed into the back of his semi truck, fatally striking him in the process. Knight struck the big rig at 73 mph and did not brake prior to the impact.

Knight initially told responding officers that she was distracted by the climate control settings in the moments before the wreck, but cell phone data shows she was playing games on her phone just before the crash. Knight eventually told officers that she was using Netflix while driving.

Knight was arrested last Friday and was charged with vehicular homicide, using an electronic device while driving, and reckless driving.
