Firefighters responded to a serious crash involving multiple tractor trailers in Phelps County, Missouri, on Sunday.
The crash was reported around 1 p.m. on October 5, 2025, on I-44 at mile marker 169, near Rolla, Missouri.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a semi truck driven by a 24 year old Ohio resident travelled off the left side of westbound I-44 and went through the median into the eastbound lanes of the interstate, where it struck two other semi trucks.

When crews from the Doolittle Rural Fire Protection District (DRFPD) arrived on scene, they found “a heavily involved tractor trailer blocking both directions of I-44 and two other tractor trailers roadside.”

Firefighters said that “There were multiple explosions occurring upon arrival.”

Three people were transported to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
In addition to the vehicle fire caused by the crash, crews also dealt with a 300 gallon diesel fuel spill.

The crash is under investigation.
