A major accident has been reported in Green River, Wyoming, on Friday afternoon.
At 11:37 a.m. on February 14, troopers responded to a fatal multi-vehicle crash on westbound I-80 at mile marker 90.2, according to the Wyoming Highway Patrol.
The Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office reports that the interstate is closed for “a multi-vehicle pileup, active fire, and explosion threat.”
Local outlet Sweetwater NOW reports that multiple passenger vehicles and semi trucks were involved. The outlet also reports multiple fatalities.
The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) announced that both directions of I-80 are closed for the crash between Rock Springs and Green River at mile marker 90 (Green River Tunnels), with all westbound traffic being diverted to exit 91, and all eastbound traffic being diverted to exit 89.
There is currently no estimated time for I-80 to reopen.
“Do NOT attempt alternate routes as conditions are hazardous and emergency crews are actively working to contain the situation,” the Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office said.
