Nearly 2,500 Volvo trucks recalled for oversteer guidance issue that could result in loss of control

Volvo Trucks North America will recall nearly 2,500 trucks for an oversteer guidance defect that could result in loss of steering control.

According to documents submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on August 11, 2025, Volvo will recall certain 2025-2026 Volvo New VN trucks.

From the recall documents:

Certain Volvo New VN vehicles equipped with dynamic steering and oversteer guidance may experience an oversteer correction, where oversteer guidance may correct for an oversteer input and then continue to correct in the opposite direction. The resulting oscillations may result in a control issue which requires driver interventionIn the event of a vehicle oversteer guidance intervention and without driver intervention the on-going correction could result in a crash.

The total number of trucks affected by the recall is 2,487. The estimated percentage of these trucks with the defect is 100%.

Volvo says that there has been “one field report related to this issue,” but the company says that there have been no warranty claims, accidents or injuries.

As part of the remedy, Volvo will use over the air (OTA) programming to turn off the oversteer guidance feature, free of charge. If a vehicle is not capable of receiving OTA programming, a dealer will provide the repair for free. Additionally, trucks at Volvo factories were put under a stop shipment effective August 5, 2025, and will not be released until the defect is corrected.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed October 5, 2025.

Truck owners may contact Volvo Trucks’ customer service at 1-800-528-6586 and reference recall number RVXX2506.
