Nebraska troopers stop over 1,800 drivers for speeding during safety operation

The Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) released results from a major traffic enforcement effort conducted in July.

From July 14 through July 31, 2025, NSP conducted the “Speeding Catches Up With You” campaign in an effort to improve highway safety by reducing dangerous driving behaviors.

• 1,806 traffic stops for speeding
• 62 traffic stops for drivers speeding at over 100 m.p.h.
• Citations issued:
  • 91 – driving under suspension
  • 50 – open alcohol container
  • 31 – minor in possession of alcohol
  • 44 – no seat belt
  • 18 – improper child restraint 

“This summer has flown by,” said Colonel Bryan Waugh, Superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol. “Some of the speeds our troopers have seen from drivers have been egregious. Triple digit speeds can be shocking, but those aren’t the only speeds that can cause tragedies on the road. All drivers should follow posted speed limits.”

“Since Memorial Day, our troopers have stopped 245 drivers for speeding at over 100 miles per hour, including 118 in July alone,” said Colonel Waugh. “As the summer travel season winds down over the next month, our troopers will remain dedicated to keep Nebraska roads safe. But it also takes partnership from motorists to follow traffic safety laws and watch your speed.”
