The City of Rye Police Department (RPD) found more than a dozen violations during a recent traffic stop on a tri-axle commercial vehicle.
On September 26, an RPD officer spotted a commercial vehicle hauling a load of asphalt at Playland Access Drive and Theodore Fremd Avenue in Rye, New York.
A traffic stop was initiated after the officer noticed that the truck did not have a Highway Use Tax (HUT) decal or an International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) decal.
The truck underwent a Level I commercial vehicle inspection.
From RPD:
“Inspection results revealed the vehicle was operating significantly above its legal allowable weight of 56,000 pounds, weighing in at 73,250 pounds. Additionally, the vehicle was found to have multiple safety violations, including two inoperative brakes and one brake system out of adjustment, resulting in 50% of the vehicle’s braking capacity being defective.
Due to these violations, the vehicle was immediately placed out of service and towed from the scene by RJB towing. In total, the company was cited for 17 separate violations on the NYS DOT inspection report.“
The truck driver was also cited.
“The City of Rye Police Department remains committed to ensuring public safety through proactive enforcement of commercial vehicle regulations. Inspections such as these are critical in preventing unsafe vehicles from endangering motorists on New York State roadways,” RPD said.
