Officers looking for ghost drivers, ELD tampering, and false logs during Roadcheck blitz in May
The year’s biggest commercial vehicle inspection blitz is just weeks away — here’s what truckers need to know to prepare.
The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s (CVSA) International Roadcheck inspection effort is scheduled for May 13 — 15, 2025, throughout the U.S., Canada and Mexico.
Inspectors will be paying special attention to two areas of emphasis during Roadcheck 2025 — tires and false records of duty status.
When inspecting tires, officers will be looking for:
- Low tread depth
- Audible air leaks
- Flat tires
- Belt material or casing ply exposed in the tread or sidewall
- Tread or sidewall separation
- Bulges in the sidewall
- Improper repairs, such as rubber-coated plugs in the sidewall
- Items lodged between dual tires
When examining a driver’s record of duty status, inspectors will check for:
- Electronic logging device tampering, including driving while not logged in, disconnected devices and improper edits
- Ghost drivers (claiming a co-driver when there is no co- driver present)
- Improper use of the personal conveyance special driving category
- Improper use of other exceptions, including adverse driving conditions
- Recording off-duty time while performing work for a motor carrier or non-motor carrier
Roadcheck is the largest targeted enforcement program on commercial motor vehicles in the world, with an average of 15 commercial vehicles inspected every minute of the 72 hour enforcement period.
