The Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) is raising public awareness about a rash of crashes on the Turner Turnpike so far this month, many of which involved semi trucks.
According to a November 18 release from OHP, troopers have responded to 22 crashes on the Turner Turnpike since November 1, 2025, an average of 1.2 crashes per day.

Five of the 22 crashes resulted in injuries, and two were hit-and-run collisions.
OHP said that semi trucks were involved in 55% of the 22 Turner Turnpike crashes, and that the “semi was the cause in 50% of those.”
Troopers attributed 61% of the Turner Turnpike crashes to driver inattention factors such as falling asleep, drifting off roadway, overcorrecting. Other contributing crash factors include unsafe speed, unsafe or improper lane changes, following too closely, over-height semi striking a bridge

OHP noted that “only 10% of the Turner Turnpike is under construction, yet nearly half of recent collisions have occurred in these zones.”

“Drivers, stay alert and put your phone down. These crashes are completely preventable. One glance at your phone could cause injury or death and endanger the hardworking crews who are improving our roadways,” Oklahoma troopers advised.
