Picketers allege truck driver intentionally hit them during demonstration outside of Windsor plant

A truck driver allegedly ran over three picketers during a demonstration outside of a plant in Windsor on Monday.

The incident happened at about 10:20 a.m. on Monday, November 10th outside of Titan Tool & Die in Windsor, Ontario, Canada.

According to CKLW, the truck showed up at the plant at about 8:40 a.m. and drove to the back of the plant for a pickup. The truck began leaving the plant around 10:20 a.m. and did not slow down as it approached the line of picketers. The truck reportedly struck three people and kept going.

Emile Nabbout, President of the demonstrating group for Unifor Local 195, says that the strikes appeared intentional. Windsor Police were on the scene at the time of the incident. The Union is pursuing a full investigation into the incident. None of the three people hit were seriously hurt.

“They are going to the hospital to be checked out, but we believe that the transport truck needs to adhere to the injunction rule and make sure it doesn’t have a wilful intent to harm our members here on the picket line.”

“If we can have a transport truck come in here, and want to have a well-intended harm to our members in the presence of the employer… two of the mangers were standing there witnessing the incident and they haven’t said one word to us, or to the Windsor Police at this time.”

The union is currently under a court-ordered injunction preventing them from blocking the entrances to the plant as they work to reach a contract agreement with the plant.
