Popular Kansas truck stop closes, to reopen under new ownership

Published:

A popular truck stop in eastern Kansas has closed its doors but will reopen under new management.

Bert’s Travel Plaza, located at 1021 Poplar Street in Wellsville, Kansas, closed its doors at 10 p.m. on February 2. The store will reopen under new ownership on February 3.

The location has only been open since 2020, but it gained popularity quickly in the trucking community and was named the #1 Independent Truck Stop in 2022 by users of the Trucker Path app.

Bert’s issued the following statement on the closure:

Since May 2020, Bert’s has solely focused on doing one thing – serving you. Our staff takes great pride in being able to serve the local community, professional drivers, and over-the-road travelers. It was the height of Covid when we opened our doors. It was surreal how quickly we earned your trust. The world was upside-down, and many stores closed or limited business activity. We didn’t. We kept our doors open and made sure that professional drivers were not only taken care of but also celebrated. It’s overwhelming to think about the new friends we’ve made since the doors opened. On February 2nd at 10 PM, we will be closing our doors for the final time. The store will undergo changes, and new ownership will begin on February 3rd. Kim and her staff will remain and will be excited to continue serving you!

CDLLife reached out to TravelCenters of America for information on the ownership of the former Bert’s Travel Plaza. This article will be updated with any response.
