Roadside commercial vehicle inspection on I-57 uncovers 15 kilos of cocaine, Illinois troopers say

The Illinois State Police (ISP) recently arrested a truck driver after finding a large amount of cocaine inside of his vehicle during a roadside inspection.

At 3:24 a.m on August 16, 2025, an ISP trooper conducted a motor carrier safety inspection on a semi truck on I-57 northbound at mile marker 302 in Chebanse, Kankakee County.

According to ISP Troop 5, a search of the vehicle uncovered approximately 15 kilos of suspected cocaine.

The driver of the truck, Dwayne B. Cook, 63, of Texas, was arrested and charged with Controlled Substance Trafficking (Class X Felony) and Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance (Class X Felony).

Cook was booked into the Jerome Cobs Detention Center ahead of his court appearance.

The Kankakee Area Metropolitan Enforcement Group assisted ISP in the arrest.
