San Antonio to start restricting legal truck parking based on 311 complaints

The city of San Antonio will start restricting legal truck parking starting this weekend.

The San Antonio, Texas City Council voted on an amendment in March that makes it easier to ban semi trucks from parking on city streets based on 311 complaints only.

According to KSAT, the city of San Antonio has already posted signs in areas where truck parking was once legal. Truck parking in those areas is now banned based on resident complaints to the city.

The amended ordinance restricting legal truck parking goes into effect on Saturday, April 19th, and bans tractor trailers from parking in those areas with posted signs. Warning citations will be issued until June 18th. Starting June 18th, violators will face a $500 fine.

The 40 parking signs will be placed on these streets: Bluffdale Drive, Gardendale Road, Parkdale Street, Garden Brook Drive, Holly Hill Drive, Finis Avenue, Acorn Ridge Road, Cinnamon Trail, Milsa Drive, Datapoint Drive, Spectrum 1, Fairhaven Street, Console Drive, Midhorizon Drive, East Horizon Drive, Horizon Hill Boulevard.

“This ordinance helps improve neighborhood safety and accessibility by reducing oversized vehicle congestion, preventing large vehicle obstructions, and protecting roadways and infrastructure from damage caused by heavy commercial vehicles,” the release said.

Councilwoman Adriana Rocha Garcia has requested that the city do more on-the-ground research and analyze the availability of private truck parking in the area before implementing restrictions, but her request was not fulfilled. She also requested that the city develop plans to build or create truck parking on city land, but “was told that the city is not in the business of that.”
