Drivers can expect a 38 mile detour outside of Tacoma after a semi truck struck a bridge, forcing officials to shut it down.
The accident happened on Monday, August 18th on the State Route 410 White River Bridge between Buckley, Washington and Enumclaw, Washington at about 9:30 a.m.
According to Fox 13, the semi truck struck several support beams on the White River Bridge and came to a stop blocking SR 410 in both directions.
Crews are now assessing the damage to the 76-year-old bridge, which will be closed until further notice. There is no estimated time of reopening.
KIRO News Radio, reports that the signed detour is approximately 38 miles, stretching to State Route 167. The 38 mile detour adds between 45 and 60 minutes to the trip. No further information can be released. The Washington State Department of Transportation’s real-time travel map can be found here.
