Semi truck that crashed through frozen lake moments after driver escaped cab still sitting there

Published:

Residents in Ontario are concerned about the environmental repercussions of a semi truck that is still sitting submerged in the frozen lake after an accident earlier this month

The accident happened on January 12th, after the rig lost control on Highway 11 and skidded onto the frozen Lake Nipigon in Ontario, Canada. The driver was able to exit the cab just before the truck broke through the ice and plunged into the water.

According to SN News Watch, service vehicles were observed in the area on Thursday, January 30th, but their objective was not clear. Currently, the tractor trailer is submerged in the frozen lake with its back end sticking out of the water. A fence has been installed on the ice surrounding the truck.

No official plans regarding the removal of the commercial vehicle or environmental mitigation have been released by Ontario’s Ministry of the Environment.
