Seven New York bridges have tractor trailer restrictions through early Thursday morning due to high winds and accompanying storms across the state.
Governor Kathy Hochul announced the restrictions on Tuesday, November 4th. The closures started at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, November 5th, and are expected to last through 4 a.m. on Thursday, November 6th, reported Staten Island Live.
The seven New York bridges affected by the closures are as follows:
- Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge
- Bronx-Whitestone Bridge
- Cross Bay Bridge
- Henry Hudson Bridge
- Marine Parkway Bridge
- Robert F. Kennedy Bridge
- Throgs Neck Bridge
“Our state agencies and thousands of utility workers stand ready to assist New Yorkers as strong-to-severe wind gusts and potential thunderstorms impact much of the state starting Wednesday,” Hochul said. “I urge all New Yorkers to stay vigilant and remain alert — text your county or borough name to 333111 to get the most up-to-date information sent directly to your phone.”
The storms are forecasted to bring gusty winds, rain, and thunderstorms to the state. The most severe storms are expected to affect the Finger Lakes, Southern Tier, Central New York and Mohawk Valley regions. Rain that falls above 1,500 feet may turn into snow.
The Tuesday forecast shows wind gusts between 40 and 50 mph in New York City, with some gusts potentially peaking at 60-70 mph.
