The California Highway Patrol (CHP) highlighted major wheel damage discovered during a recent semi truck inspection.
On December 18, 2025, CHP’s Cottonwood Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Facility shared information about a recent commercial vehicle inspection that uncovered major damage to a truck’s steer wheel.
“During a level 1 inspection, one of our inspectors discovered a steer wheel with most of its inboard flange broken off. The driver was left speechless when he was shown the severity of the damage,” CHP said.
“When he contacted his company, they told him that this was the 15th steer wheel in their fleet to suffer an identical failure,” troopers said.
While several social media users pointed to a wheel recall as a possible explanation for the fleet-wide issue, CHP inspectors did not provide details on whether the wheel damage was related to a known defect.
