“Significant amount” of diesel spilled by refueling driver prompts call to environmental services

An environmental service was called after a refueling truck driver overfilled his truck tank and spilled a large amount of diesel into a nearby storm drain.

The incident happened at the Circle K in the 3800 block of W. Palmetto St. near Interstate 95 in Florence, South Carolina.

According to West Florence fire-Rescue, the truck driver was refueling his tractor trailer at the location when he allowed the tank to overflow drastically. The “significant amount” of spilled fuel then leaked into the nearby storm drain.

West Florence Fire-Rescue and the South Carolina Department of Environmental Control both responded to the scene.

Crews were able to absorb much of the spilled fuel and protect other drainage systems. Further information about the incident has not been released.
