South Carolina DOT worker killed by semi truck tire

Police are investigating an accident that claimed the life of a South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) worker in Dorchester County on Tuesday.

The incident occurred around 9 a.m. on February 18 near St. George, South Carolina.

Officials say that worker Jerad Devin Rose, 24, was standing on the shoulder of US 15 when he was hit by a tire that came loose from a passing semi truck.

Rose died at the scene from his injuries.

South Carolina Secretary of Transportation Justin Powell issued the following statement:

“Today’s tragedy is yet another reminder of the danger our front line workers face as they work to improve the lives of South Carolinians. Jerad’s memory and his sacrifice in service to our state will not be forgotten. This is a tremendous loss and I would ask all of you to join us in lifting up his family, friends and colleagues in your prayers tonight.”

The incident is under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
