Speed deemed factor in dump bed semi truck crash off SR 49

Police say that speed was a contributing factor in a crash involving a dump bed semi truck in upstate New York.

The crash happened on Friday, October 3rd, in Oneida County, New York, but investigators did not release the cause until Monday, October 6th.

According to CNY Central, 39-year-old truck driver Micheal Lucas was hauling stone on State Route 49 when he lost control during a turn at the Martin Street off ramp. The dump bed semi truck then went off the highway and landed on its nose with the trailer up in the air.

Lucas was pronounced dead at the scene. The road was closed for several hours for cleanup of the stone material spilled in the accident.

The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office says that speed was a contributing factor in the incident. Lucas was driving for Real Deal landscaping at the time of the wreck. The accident happened on his 39th birthday.
