Texas trucking company plans 74 permanent layoffs after losing ⅓ of its contracts

A Texas trucking company has reported 74 permanent layoffs will take place before the end of the year thanks to contract loss and insurance costs.

Firebird Bulk Carriers is based in Dayton, Texas, and plans to have 74 permanent layoffs across several of its locations between December 1st and December 30th, according to a filing with the Texas Workforce Commission.

Firebird says the job cuts come after the loss of one-third of its contracts and continuously rising insurance costs. 31 of the planned layoffs will occur at the Carrizo Springs location, with the remaining occurring at Victoria, Bryan, Dayton, Dilley, George West, and Tarzan locations, reported Chron.

A majority of the job cuts are truck drivers, but a few supervisors, mechanics, and administrative workers will also be affected. Some employees may be able to transfer to Firebird’s parent company, Adams Resources & Energy, or its subsidiary GulfMark Energy.

Firebird has not made a public statement regarding the 74 permanent layoffs.
