A dash cam video from a truck driver who collided with a pickup truck in a merging situation on a highway has sparked debate online recently.
The video clip shows a black pickup speeding up from a merging lane to try to pull in front of an oncoming trucker, but the pickup is clearly not going to make it. Instead of hitting the brakes or pulling onto the grassy median to avoid a collision, the pickup seemingly insists it has the right of way, causing the semi truck to smack into it and send it spinning.
The pickup slides in front of the filming semi truck, where it is briefly pushed by the rig and then gets caught up underneath the trailer of a second semi truck. The semi truck then spins across the highway and bounces back and forth off of the barrier walls more than once.
One version of the video features a voiceover by the pickup truck driver stating that he was in the right and it was illegal for the truck driver not to let him over. In this version with no voiceover, it seems pretty clear who was in the right in this merging situation.
“Merging traffic is supposed to yield. Driver’s Ed 101,” commented one viewer.
“Yes it was the pickups fault, but I’ll still bet he won big in court. Because the tractor trailer could of [sic] avoided it. 4 wheelers do that crap to me many times a day. One of the joys of trucking,” wrote another.
“When it’s safe and legal to do so merge into the flow of traffic….end of story,” added another.
