Large vehicles were banned from the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge on Monday morning due to concerns over high winds.
The ban went into effect on Monday morning, February 17th at around 8 a.m. EST. The ban comes after the closure of all upper level lanes of the bridge on Sunday evening due to wind concerns.
According to SI Live, trucks hauling tandem or empty trailers were banned from MTA tunnels and bridges yesterday as the city prepares for an “impactful winter storm that can bring disruptive snow.”
.@MTA Due to high winds the following vehicles are barred from the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge: All tractor-trailers, house trailers, motorcycles, step vans, cars pulling trailers, minibuses, and any vehicle deemed to be a potential safety hazard.

“With this storm in particular, there’s been a lot of uncertainty in the models with respect to exactly how much snow that might be received,” said meteorologist Allison Santorelli. “The current forecast is showing snow moving into the northeast, but exactly how much places might receive is really uncertain right now.”
As of Monday morning, 10 a.m. there was no estimated time of reopening for large vehicles on the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge.
