A truck driver was arrested during a human smuggling bust at a Love’s in San Antonio late last week.
The arrest was made on September 12th at the Love’s Truck Stop in the 11300 block of the southbound Interstate 35 Frontage Road in San Antonio, Texas.
According to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, members of the Gang Unit, K9 Unit, and the Human Exploitation and Intelligence Unit were stationed at the truck stop when they noticed a suspected human smuggling operation. Officers witnessed an apparent transfer of individuals from a semi truck into two SUVs.
Officers then conducted traffic stops on both of the SUVs and discovered a total of four undocumented migrants originating from San Luis Potosí, Mexico; Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico; and Guatemala. One of the migrants was transported to a hospital for a leg injury following the human smuggling bust.
The migrants were taken to the Bexar County Adult Detention Center. The truck driver, 64-year-old Ormond Andrea Tolbert, was also taken into custody without incident. He is facing four counts of smuggling of persons and one count of engaging in organized criminal activity.
