Truck driver charged with vehicular homicide, feticide, in I-85 pileup that killed eight

A truck driver has been arrested and charged in connection with a chain-reaction crash that killed several people in Jackson County, Georgia, on Monday.

On October 13, 2025, Kane Aaron Hammock, 33, was arrested on the following charges:

The charges were issued in connection with a crash that occurred around 4 p.m. on October 13 on I-85 near  mile marker 147 in Jackson County, Georgia.

The Georgia State Patrol said that Hammock struck the rear of a Dodge van, sparking a chain reaction crash that involved a total of six vehicles.

The Dodge van caught fire following the collision.

Initial reports indicated that seven people perished in the crash, but that number was later updated to eight.

According to 11Alive, all eight people killed were members of the same family, and they were all between the ages of 2 and 42.

A van belonging to an animal shelter was also involved in the crash, and several cats that were being transported were injured or went missing.

The crash is under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol.
