Virginia State Police (VSP) are searching for a truck driver who is believed to have fatally shot a fellow truck driver in a road rage incident in Henrico County over the weekend.
Around 11:30 p.m. on January 31, police responded to southbound I-295 at mile marker 25 and discovered truck driver Silvio Sobrinho, 58, dead from a gunshot wound, WWBT reports.
Troopers believe that Sobrinho was driving a tractor trailer hauling a load of cars in the left lane of southbound I-295 when his vehicle was struck by a second semi truck traveling in the center lane, forcing Sobrinho’s truck off the road and into a guardrail.
After Sobrinho’s truck came to a stop against the guardrail, VSP said that the driver of the second semi truck pulled up alongside him and fired multiple rounds into the crashed truck.
A witness traveling north pulled off, found Sobrinho in the cab laying over the steering wheel, and called police. A trooper performed CPR but Sobrinho was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect vehicle is described as a white semi truck with green lettering.
The investigation is active.
Troopers are asking for information or dash cam footage to aid in the investigation. If you have any information, you’re asked to contact the the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation at 804-750-8758.
