Truck driver fell asleep and drove off I-17 into ravine, Arizona troopers say

The Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS) Highway Patrol called out a truck driver for drowsy driving that led to a recent crash off I-17.

Officials said the crash occurred around 11 p.m. on July 25, 2025, in Anthem, Arizona.

AZDPS troopers responded to the reported crash involving one commercial vehicle on southbound I-17.

“Troopers investigated and determined the driver fell asleep and drove off the right side of the roadway into a ravine,” AZDPS said.

No injuries were reported.

“Drowsy driving IS impaired driving! Pull off the highway and find a safe place to rest if you’re feeling unwell or tired. Use the 511 app from Arizona Department of Transportation to find rest stops along the way!” AZDPS recommended.
