A truck driver was awarded $32 million in a lawsuit against ExxonMobil following a fall at one of their facilities.
The massive settlement was announced on Tuesday, September 23rd by the law firm representing the truck driver.
According to a WGNTV, truck driver Stephanie Johnson slipped on oil while on an ExxonMobil property in Illinois. Johnson fell onto her left hand, resulting in injuries that eventually led to the development of Complex Regional Pain Syndrome.
The jury in the case found “ExxonMobil 100% responsible and awarded damages that reflect both the severity of Johnson’s condition and the scope of ExxonMobil’s negligence.”
“I’m grateful that justice has been done. This verdict isn’t just for me,” Johnson said of the ruling. “It’s for every worker who has been harmed by corporate carelessness.”
A company spokesperson says that ExxonMobil plans to appeal the decision.
“This is an irrational verdict that is completely untethered to the evidence presented at trial. We will pursue all appellate relief available,” the spokesperson said.
