Trucker fought back with fuel hose as angry driver confronted him with pocket knife for earlier highway incident

Published:

A truck driver was arrested after attacking another driver with a pocket knife at a fuel pump in Utah earlier this week.

The incident occurred on October 13th at a Maverick gas station in Green River, Utah.

According to ABC 4, a truck driver was fueling up his semi truck when 37-year-old truck driver Habib Khairy approached him and started yelling. Khairy continued “getting closer” as the two engaged in a verbal argument, and Khairy eventually “pushed the victim near his throat” and pulled out a pocket knife. The other driver then grabbed the fuel hose and attempted to use ity to defend himself.

When brandishing the fuel hose did not work, the truck driver grabbed a squeegee and swung it at Khairy to try to stop his advances. Khairy then allegedly continued to “go after” the other driver with the knife. Police were eventually called to the scene.

During his interview with police Khairy told officers that he had attacked the other driver because he had cut him off on the highway earlier that day. Said he was “still upset about what had happened on the highway” when he pulled into the Maverick and saw the semi truck. Khairy then told officers that he did “not have a knife” and consented to a search of his semi truck. Officers soon found a pocket knife in a compartment above the passenger seat.

The other truck driver confirmed that the knife was the same one Khairy had tried to use against him, and a police review of security footage matched the victim’s description of events.

Khairy was arrested and booked into the Emery County Jail on charges of aggravated assault. He is being held without bail. His CDL was issued in Texas and police say he has no ties to Utah.
