Trucker in stable condition after being extricated from crash off of I-40

A truck driver is listed in stable condition after being rescued from his mangled semi truck following a crash off of Interstate 40. 

The accident happened at about 1 a.m. on Sunday, March 23rd on Interstate 40 in Amarillo, Texas

According to ABC 7 Amarillo, the tractor trailer drove off of eastbound I-40 at Paramount Boulevard and plowed across the south frontage road. The semi truck then crashed through two fences and a large sign before coming to a stop inside of a Batteries+Bulbs store. 

The truck driver was trapped inside of his cab as a result of the crash, and firefighters worked for 18 minutes to free him from the vehicle. The unnamed driver was then transported to a nearby hospital where he is now listed as being in critical but stable condition. 

The cause of the crash has not been released.
