Trucker rescued after five hours stuck in cab dangling off WVa bridge

A truck driver was rescued by a team of firefighters after spending five hours stuck in the cab of his semi truck as it dangled off a bridge in West Virginia.

The accident happened at around 6 a.m. in Mason County, West Virginia on Tuesday, December 12th in the northbound lanes on US Highway 35.

According to 13 News, The trucker was hauling bricks when he lost control along U.S. 35 at the intersection of Sixteen Mile Creek Road and struck a concrete barrier wall and went partially over the side of the bridge. The truck cab was left hanging off of the bridge, while the trailer remained on the roadway.

Rescue crews say the weight of the load of bricks is what kept the truck from falling completely off of the bridge. Rescue crews secured one firefighter to a ladder truck and allowed him to propel off of the bridge until he was able to crawl inside of the truck cab. The firefighter and truck driver were then lifted by rope back onto the bridge.

The driver was reportedly stuck in the truck cab for over five hours before he was successfully rescued. He was not hurt in the crash. No further information has been released.
