A truck driver with an oversize load avoided hitting a bridge in Nashville on Friday morning by reversing onto a nearby on-ramp.
The incident occurred on Friday, January 3rd in Nashville, Tennessee at around 7:25 a.m. on Interstate 40 West.
According to WSMV 4, a tractor trailer was hauling an oversized dump truck along I-40 westbound when it stopped short of the rail bridge between Elm Hill Pike and Arlington Avenue. The driver realized that the load would not successfully fit underneath the bridge, and decided to put the truck in reverse and come to a stop in the left lane of I-40 westbound.
The Tennessee Department of Transportation dispatched several units to the scene to direct traffic flow around the semi truck before closing a portion of I-40 westbound to allow the semi truck to reverse onto the I-24 East on-ramp.
The driver was able to reverse back onto I-24 East, and I-40 was reopened to traffic.
The bridge was not damaged in the incident. No further information has been released.
