Truckers protest poor driver training & truck maintenance with Montreal slow-roll

Truckers in Canada organized a slow-roll protest in Montreal on Monday morning in protest of poor conditions and standards throughout the industry.

Multiple slow-roll protests were scheduled for Monday, September 22nd throughout Quebec, Canada by truckers involved in the Assez c’est assez movement, or “enough is enough.” The protest planned for Gatineau was cancelled due to low turnout, but the protests in the Montreal area continued on as planned.

According to CBC, the trucker’s protest was organized in response to concerns over truck driver hiring and training practices. Participating drivers say that some trucking companies are employing drivers without proper training or immigration permits, and putting them in trucks without sufficient maintenance. The protest calls for stricter enforcement of existing laws, improved working conditions for truck drivers, and more oversight for trucking companies. Protest participants hope to improve road safety and reduce accidents involving semi trucks.

Truck drivers met at the Brossard Dix30 shopping center and were protesting on Highway 13 South and Highway 20 westbound by 8:30 a.m. in a slow-roll with flashing lights in the right lane of the highways.

“It is imperative that the government divide the solutions between provincial and federal jurisdictions so that each level fully assumes its responsibilities,” reads the group’s petition according to CTV News. “Among these measures, the implementation of appropriate infrastructure for stricter enforcement of transportation regulations is essential.”
