Two trucking companies given $36k in forgiven PPP loans owned by unlicensed illegal immigrant driver in US 20 fatality crash

An illegal immigrant truck driver involved in a fatal crash in Indiana last week is the owner of two trucking companies that received $36,000 in now forgiven PPP loans.

41-year-old Broko Stankovic (also reported as Borko Stankovic) was driving west on US Highway 20 near Portage, Indiana on October 15th when he swerved to avoid a van attempting a left turn. Stankovic then veered into oncoming traffic, where he struck a Subaru. Stankovic’s semi truck then jackknifed and slid into the van, pushing it into a road sign. The 54-year-old Subaru driver, Jefferey Eberly, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police found that Stankovic did not possess a CDL, and instead was in possession of a family member’s suspended CDL. He was arrested for reckless homicide and criminal recklessness, and has since been placed on an ICE detainer for his illegal immigration status.

Fox News reports that Stankovic has been in the US illegally since February 2011 when his nonimmigrant visa status expired. Stankovic was also found to own two trucking companies with one listed employee – Eclipse Trucking Inc. and ESD Team Inc. These two companies each received covid-era Paycheck Protection Program loans. These now forgiven PPP loans total to $36,082.

“U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Chicago lodged an immigration detainer with the Porter County Jail against criminal illegal alien Borko Stankovic following his arrest on Oct. 15 for reckless homicide and criminal recklessness. Stankovic, a 41-year-old illegal alien from Serbia and Montenegro, was driving a semi-truck and caused a multi-vehicle accident in Portage, Indiana, that tragically claimed the life of Jeffrey Eberly,” said Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin. “This criminal illegal alien didn’t even have a valid commercial [driver’s] license (CDL). DHS is working with our state and local partners to get illegal alien truck drivers who often don’t know basic traffic laws off our highways.”

“Americans should be concerned that any illegal alien is able to access any government benefits,” said Rosemary Jenks, policy director for the Immigration Accountability Project. “Americans should be concerned that any illegal alien is able to access any government benefits,” Jenks said. “We all kind of know that under the Biden administration during COVID, there were no checks on who was getting money, who was taking out loans. But the fact is that illegal aliens should never be able to access our taxpayer dollars. That’s just a fact. Those dollars should be reserved for Americans.”
