Uber Freight and Tesla have announced a partnership in hopes to accelerate EV adoption throughout the transportation industry.
The Dedicated EV Fleet Accelerator Program was announced on September 16th and aims to “make electric freight more affordable and accessible by addressing key adoption barriers.”
According to the Press Release, the two companies say that the partnership will allow them to lower upfront costs for the Tesla semi truck, allow Tesla access to Uber Freight’s network of shippers, and give both companies a way to offer EV shipping options, which will accelerate EV adoption. The partnership will also provide a “subsidized entry point into electrification” for any fleets purchasing Tesla Semis through their program using “Uber Freight’s dedicated solutions for shippers for a pre-determined period.”
Any fleets participating in the program have the option to schedule meetings with Tesla to “review technical details and total cost of ownership assumptions specific to the fleets’ operational profile.” Meanwhile, “Uber Freight is designing dedicated routes around available infrastructure to help fleets adopt EVs more practically.”
Earlier this year, Elon Musk stated that the Tesla semi truck will be in “volume production” next year. Currently, there is no price for the Tesla semi truck listed on the website.
