The Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge is closed to some commercial vehicle traffic today as a storm moves through NYC.
High winds between 30 and 40 mph are expected on Thursday, October 30th, with rainfall predicted to continue through Friday morning, October 31st.
“Due to high winds, empty tractor trailers, tandem, piggyback, dual and multiple trailers are prohibited from using the Verrazzano Narrows Bridge,” Notify NYC posted. “All authorized trucks must utilize the lower level. Use alternate routes.”

Prior to the ban, speed restrictions were placed on the bridge due to wind conditions. Heavy rain is predicted for late afternoon and early evening on Thursday as the storm moves through NYC. Some flooding is expected along roadways, and power outages have been reported on Staten Island, reported Staten Island Live. By Friday morning, as much as 2.5 inches of rain is expected to have fallen in the area.
